Paul van Schalkwyk

About

Paul is Namibia’s original fine art aerial photographer who has set the benchmark within this genre. He is a solo adventurer and a risk taker and has a deep personal and emotional connection to the land he calls home.

These photographs of the earth from above are not images of the earth as we know it. From the shifted aerial vantage point, the world seems strange, unfamiliar and mysterious, as if it were another planet – an extra-terrestrial world beyond our ken rather than the familiar earth we know and inhabit on a daily basis. Landscape formations take on the appearances of other things, so that nature seems to become a metaphor of itself.
