Roberto Pireddu

About

Born on October, 5th 1984 in Cagliari, Sardinia (Italy) and currently based in Bologna.

Despite his technical surveying studies, he soon realized that calculations and straight lines couldn’t be quite right for him and his whole life.

At a very young age he started to draw, so the pencil become actaully a loyal partner used to create art, and not an instrument of torture to work in surveying world. Then, as years went by, his drawing style changed, slowly abandoning the pastels to concentrate solely on the black and white creations.

Roberto has encountred the World of Photography only about three years ago and the monochrome has quickly became his natural habitat.
He communicates through deep and high-contrasted black and whites, studying the light so to create the greatest three-dimensional images.

“Shadows Inside” is a conceptual long term project, which wants to represent emotions and feelings in which everybody of us has experienced in his own life.
The series, not yet finished, has been already recognized with “Honorable Mention” at “IPA – International Photography Awards 2014”, the “Bronze award, categoria Fine Art: Non - Professional” and the “Honorable Mention” at "PX3 Prix de la Photographie de Paris 2014", and the “Silver Awards, category Story” at “FIOF Awards 2014”.

In 2013, Roberto left Sardinia and moved to Bologna in the Italian mainland. This fact put him in the condition to understand better the island where he comes from: its uniqueness, its strenght and also its weaknesses.
“ma | re” is an intimate description of one governative-naturalistic scandal, which had a huge impact on the all city of Cagliari (Capital of Sardinia). This photographic story shows the drama of Poetto Beach, a corner of Paradise on Earth, now going through a depressing state of abandon. Roberto, thanks to this work, has been recognized at the “International Photography Awards 2015”, winning the 1st place category “Books – Non Professional” and being also nominated as a finalist in “Discovery of the Year Award”.
