About

I work as an artist in a variety of media, including painting and photography.

My fine art has been exhibited in galleries in the Midwest, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The State of Michigan's Art in Public Places program purchased eleven of my photographs for permanent installation in the state capital.

My illustration and design has been used for award-winning books ranging from mysteries and science fiction, to books based on the X-Files TV series, to Newbery Award-winning books for children.

My nature picture book, STEP GENTLY OUT is a collaboration with award-winning novelist and poet Helen Frost published by Candlewick Press, now in its 7th printing with 25,000 copies.
A museum exhibition and book signing was held at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art in April 2012.

Among other honors:
• ALA 2013 Notable Book
• Best Children’s Books of 2012: Kirkus Reviews
• Starred reviews from Kirkus, Booklist, and Publisher’s Weekly.
• Finalist: 2013 Chickadee Award
• International Reading Association: Tops of 2012 in Picture Books

I’ll have a book on birds in flight out in 2015, and a book on fireflies to be published in 2016.
